Hides PDL1 Sub-Clan Account Awareness on Track for Hiwa and Tuguba

The Hides PDL1 Sub-Clan Account Opening Awareness Program, led by the directors of Gas Resources Gigira Limited (GRGL), is progressing well and on schedule in Hela Province with sessions at Juni for the Hiwa region and at Para for the Tuguba region.

The Sub-Clan Account Opening Awareness and the Hela Gun Amnesty Program are being run as shared programs. At each joint session, GRGL directors are informing communities of the upcoming royalty and equity payout and of GRGL’s focus on Community Infrastructure Trust Fund (CITF) projects to rebuild livelihoods and support youth programs.

Directors Larry Andagali and Howard Lole informed Hides PDL1 beneficiaries that their royalty and equity payments will be released once clan accounts are opened.

Mr Andagali also said 2027 will be a year of change for the people of PDL1, with GRGL to begin programs in health, education, and key economic livelihoods in the area.

“Our people have waited a long time. This is the step that turns that waiting into real change on the ground,” Mr Andagali said.

He assured the people that their benefits are secured and said GRGL will focus on projects that empower young people.

“To our youth, giving up the gun was the right choice. Now we put the past behind us and focus on going forward together,” Mr Andagali said.

MRDC General Manager External Affairs Bartholomew Yacop emphasised that accounts will be opened in line with the ministerial determination.

Mr Yacop said that with the recent successful clan mediation process and the election of directors representing the Hides regions on the GRGL board, the structure is now in place to facilitate royalty and equity payments to PDL1 beneficiaries.

He appealed to clan and block leaders in Hides to work together with MRDC and stakeholders so that the sub-clan account opening process runs smoothly.

“We want to ensure that the benefits are released by the end of November 2026,” Mr Yacop said.

“MRDC’s work is done as far as getting the process to this stage. The onus is now on you, the clan leaders and beneficiaries, to get the exercise over the line so your benefits can be released.”

Present at the event were Hela Governor and GRGL Chairman Hon. Philip Undialu; GRGL landowner directors Larry Andagali, Howard Lole, Libe Parindali, Thompson Mugubigo, Philip Iruka and Thomas Dara Ola; Hela Provincial Government officials, MRDC officials with the Hides PDL1 community.

The awareness program continues this week as MRDC facilitates the movement of landowners into Tari, where BSP Financial Group Limited will open their accounts.
