Directors from Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) trust companies, senior MRDC and affiliate investments staff have undergone a two-day directors training facilitated by the PNG Institute of Directors (PNGID).

The training is part of MRDC’s ongoing commitment to build the governance capability of its directors across the MRDC group.

It is designed to strengthen their understanding of corporate governance principles and practices, directors’ legal, fiduciary and statutory duties and responsibilities under the Companies Act 1997, compliance obligations, ethical leadership and board effectiveness.

The training was conducted under the PNGID Directors Development Program for promoting good governance and professional membership opportunities.

The program formed part of a broader commitment in finalizing a Memorandum of Agreement between MRDC and PNGID wherein PNGID will provide qualified facilitators and tailored course materials required for training of MRDC (1) Landowner-based Directors, (2) Emerging Directors; and (3) Professional Directors.

MRDC directors who attended the 2-day Training program were presented with a Certificate of Participation and the opportunity to register and become a member of the PNGID upon conclusion of Training.

Around 45 participants attended the training in two batches which ran from July 20 to 21 this week

MRDC managing director and chief executive officer Augustine Mano commended the directors and staff for showing interest and participating in the program to better understand their roles and responsibilities.

“We look forward to engaging PNGID to facilitate more trainings to deliver tailored directors training on corporate governance, compliance, and directors’ duties and responsibilities for our directors with our Group,” Mr Mano said.
