Manager-Client Services-OK Tedi
Kini Renagi is one of the longest-serving staff at Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC). He has worked with the company for almost three decades.
Kini started at MRDC in 1996 as an office attendant. Through hard work and commitment, he moved up in the company. Today, he holds a senior role as the manager for client services and runs the important MRDC Ok Tedi office.
In his current role, Kini plays a pivotal role of being the key point of contact between MRDC and project beneficiaries of the Ok Tedi Mining project in Western Province including the provincial government.
One of his most recent achievements would be his contributions to the Community Mine Continuation Agreement (CMCA) review process which culminated in the signing of the 12th agreement between the CMCA beneficiaries and Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML).
Early in his career, Kini also helped set up MRDC’s governance. He was part of the team that ran the first directors’ election for Gas Resource Plant in 2017, and then for MRSM in 2018. This important work created the system for all future MRDC elections.
Describing his earlier role and progress within the company, Kini said: “As an office attendant, I was responsible for administration of the office, day to banking tasks, dropping, and collecting mails and filling”.
“I started work during the transition period after the formation of Orogen Minerals. I can recall staff strength was below 15, a small but effective team adapting to MRDCs new challenging role managing landowners and provincial governments’ equity.
“MRDC is unique and a success story and the envy of many. My journey was stable because I didn’t stay in one position for 28 years of service.
“The motivating factors that continue to drive me are passion for the work I do, career growth, strong relationships, stability, company loyalty, work and life balance, recognition and appreciation.
The organization culture are the key factors that contribute to a long and fulfilling career fostering personal and professional growth.”
Throughout his 28 years, Kini has witnessed MRDC’s growth.
“Many thought MRDC would not survive after the privatization. It was like MRDC coming out of a surgical theatre after a transplant.”
“The landowners’ subsidiaries under MRDC management were PRK (Kutubu), MRSM, Ok Tedi and MRP (Porgera) MRM (Misima).
“Today, MRDC group is now worth billions. MRDC manages over 22 corporate trustees and that is a testament of confidence in the past and current government places on MRDC leadership and staff. I am proud to be part of that transformation.”
“The notable and significant growth MRDC has experienced from its humble beginnings in Western province in the last 50 years was under the leadership of Mr Augustine Mano, Managing Director.
“MRDC is unique and therefore it must be always protected for the benefit of future generations and the little people back home in their hamlets. MRDC is here to stay and will continue to grow.” Said Kini proudly.
Senior Treasury Officer
Kilangit Sapulai
Kilangit Sapulai
Senior Treasury Officer
Kilangit Sapulai is close clocking three decades of service with the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).
Hailing from Central and Manus, Kilangit is only one of two within MRDC that has worked for this long with the company having first joined in 1996 as an administration officer.
Like many within the company, Kilangit has transitioned roles over the years to his current position as senior treasury officer.
He has seen it all, the changes from where the company was to where it is now, a partner in nation building.
Coming up on his 29th year with the company in December, Kilangit says he has managed to stay this long because of the progressive career pathway his journeyed through from joining the company straight after completing his grade 12 to having been sent overseas for studies and coming back to assuming his role as a treasury officer.
“I am currently a senior treasury officer looking after the MRDC Group’s treasury and all the funds and where they sit in different accounts and funding for various projects and plans we have every year,” Kilangit explained his role.
“When I was first employed in 1996, I was an administration officer, and after six years, I was sent to study abroad. And so upon my return, I got a promotion to became a treasury officer in 2006.
“I’ve also gone into other roles as well, commodity administrator and so forth, and the current one being senior treasury officer.”
Kilangit said some of his proudest moments that contribute to his achievements and highlights over the years is being involved in the distribution process of project beneficiary benefits and seeing the smiles on the peoples faces when they receive their benefits.
Contrasting between the early years and today, Kilangit said MRDC has grown exponentially from staff numbers, the number of subsidiaries it manages, the technology that is being used, management changes to now an organization positioned for growth.
Being part of a company looking after beneficiary interests, Kilangit has seen firsthand some of the major projects and investments the company has done for its project beneficiaries. Projects such as the Star Mountain Plaza where the Hilton Hotel and Residence sit. “Those are some of the major projects I’ve seen, personally, that have happened,” Kilangit said.
“One of the other things I like is MRDC’s mandate, we are managed by the Oil and Gas Act, we manage two requirements, future generation trusts, and community infrastructure trust funds. These are specifically for the beneficiaries of all the projects, from the gold to the oil to gas because they all come under the Oil and Gas Act.
“And so you will, or may have had, or seen, schools and aid posts and developments happening in the communities in the project areas.
“That’s one of the things I’ve seen in the last two decades of my employment here, which has brought life into what MRDC’s mandate was to do, manage landowners’ interests.”
KIlangit has also seen many staff come and go and to the new staff coming in, he tries to encourage them to grasp the role that the company plays.
“Currently the company has embarked on a very strategic role in employing and improving the systems we have in our finance section, so it’s looking good.
“So in a way, I’m not just one person trying to remember all the other accounts, or numbers and things like that. We have several accountants dedicated to various companies, and that’s one of the improvements and things that’s going on right now.”
Highlighting the company’s 50th anniversary this year having being incorporated in May 27th, 1975, Kilangit said: “I’m reaching my 29 years in December, and I look at the future and I see the restructuring and the plans that the organisation has.
“It will be here for the next 50 years or so, as technology is improving, and there are better ways of managing businesses and serving our local beneficiaries as well.
“We should be in good stead. And all because, I’ll re-emphasize again, we have great stability in leadership, and we’ve come this far.”

Vicky joined MRDC in 2001, initially supporting the technical department. Over the years, she transitioned through a range of roles—from technical support to executive assistance, operations, administration, and ultimately human resources—each step contributing to the company’s evolving structure and capacity.
“Twenty years ago, we had about 30 staff. Today, we have over 140. Our leadership has evolved, our systems are modernizing, and our people are proving to be real assets. I’m proud to be part of that journey.”
In her current role, Vickey leads the HR and administration functions, overseeing recruitment, staff development, workplace culture, and organisational support. Her work is central to ensuring that MRDC’s workforce is equipped, engaged, and aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
“It’s been a fulfilling journey, and I take pride in contributing to MRDC’s vision and milestones. MRDC has provided me with stability, growth opportunities, and the chance to work with landowners and inspiring colleagues and leaders.”
Supported by MRDC, Vicky pursued further education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Management (HR Management), which strengthened her ability to lead and shape the company’s human resource strategy.
She has seen MRDC’s investment portfolio grow toward the K12 billion mark and believes the next chapter will be defined by innovation and digital transformation.
“The next 50 years will be about innovation, digital transformation, and expanding our investment portfolio for landowners and beneficiaries. There’s so much potential—it’s exciting.”
Vicky expresses gratitude for the leadership and teams she has worked with over the years.
“It’s been an honour to be part of this legacy. For now, I’m committed to making whatever contribution I can until we hand over the reins to the young and vibrant to continue the journey.”
Admin Support Officer
Hane Magaru
Hane Magaru
Admin Support Officer
When Hane Magaru joined MRDC in 2003, the company was a modest operation with just 30 staff and limited resources. Today, MRDC is a thriving organisation with over 138 employees, eight subsidiaries, and a growing investment portfolio, and Hane has been there every step of the way.
As Admin Support Officer, Hane plays a vital role in keeping MRDC’s operations running smoothly. Her work touches nearly every part of the office—from staff logistics and onboarding to supplies, claims, and coordination. She is the quiet force behind the scenes, ensuring that systems function, people are supported.
Her journey began as an Office Attendant, and over the years she progressed through roles including Receptionist, Front Desk Officer, and Admin Assistant. Each role added new layers to her experience and deepened her understanding of how to support both people and processes.
“Every day has its challenges,” she said. “I deal with different kinds of people who have different views on how things should be done. I’ve learned to be flexible, patient, and always ready to help.”
Today, Hane manages a wide range of responsibilities. She handles medical claim submissions, BSP Life and insurance proposals, and coordinates sensitive matters such as staff and director death claims with care and professionalism.
She also plays a key role in onboarding new staff, ensuring they receive the tools and information they need to start their journey at MRDC smoothly.
“I’ve always believed that small things matter. If someone needs help with a phone, a form, or even just directions, I want to be the person they can rely on.”
Her motivation comes from the joy of helping others and seeing the impact of her work.
“Serving others and seeing their happiness when you’ve helped them—that’s what drives me.”
Over the past two decades, Hane has witnessed MRDC’s transformation in size, systems, leadership, and culture. She’s proud to have contributed to that growth, helping build the foundation that supports the company’s day-to-day operations.
“From where it was to where it is now, MRDC has come a long way. I’ve seen many people come and go, but the future looks bright. With the current management team and new investments, MRDC is soaring higher.”
Executive Assistant-Office of the Managing Director
Hitolo Hera
Hitolo Hera
Executive Assistant-Office of the Managing Director
With 18 years of dedicated service to the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), Hitolo Hera has built a career rooted in purpose and passion.
She began her journey in 2007 as a junior staff member fresh out of college, eager to contribute to MRDC’s mission of making a meaningful impact in project-affected communities.
Today, she serves as Executive Assistant to the Office of the Managing Director.
“At that time, the organization had fewer than 50 employees and managed seven landowner subsidiary companies,” she recalls.
Her first role was as Secretary to the Technical Manager, the late Mr. David Tau-Loi, from 2007 to 2010. She then transitioned to the Legal Services Division as Legal Secretary from 2010 to 2013, working alongside a small team.
“We handle multiple tasks related to legal and board services,” she said. “Despite the challenges of supporting the litigation lawyer and company secretary while managing landowner boards, I gained valuable experience and confidence.”
This experience led to her promotion to the Managing Director’s office, to manage the office’s busy schedule.
She loves the pressure and pace of serving a boss who doesn’t seem to have a day off.
“Its quite a challenge managing the schedule of a boss who works 7 days a week, almost non-stop.
“With MRDC managing the various Trustee and Investment companies, Mr Mano’s daily schedule is a busy one, and involves management and board meetings, conferences and seminars, traveling locally and abroad, visiting landowner communities, launching projects, resolving disputes, and so on.
“It’s very hectic. But it’s very satisfying especially when I see the amazing results at the end of it all, and the benefits for those we serve.”
“Over the past 15 years, MRDC has expanded its business scope and adapted to new challenges, which have significantly contributed to my professional growth,” she said.
One of Hitolo’s proudest achievements is her involvement at the development and launch of Hilton Port Moresby.
“I worked closely with the team and the incredible Mr. Mano, providing logistical support from the planning stages to the launch, including the groundbreaking and the opening of Phases 1 and 2. Phase 3 is underway now,” she said.
“It showed me the impact we can make for our project beneficiaries and for the greater good.”
Hitolo attributes her long tenure at MRDC to the people and the organization’s values.
“There’s a true sense of community here, fueled by a collective passion by everyone to make a real difference,” she said. “I love it when everyone at MRDC makes it their business to ensure initiatives that uplift the lives of those project area villages are delivered, especially in health and education.”
Hitolo believes MRDC’s uniqueness lies in its blend of professional excellence and purpose.
“It’s about impact. We support communities in resource project areas. There’s a strong culture of trust, and people are genuinely committed to the organization’s mission, which you don’t find everywhere.”
“My vision is for us to remain adaptable to the ever-changing landscape while staying true to our mission. I’d love to see us deepen our partnerships, invest in our people, and continue being a positive force in the country.”

“Collaborating with landowners and stakeholders in project-impacted villages has been incredibly rewarding—especially when you see the results of MRDC’s work in buildings, hospitals, schools, and vehicles carrying the company logo,” Norman said.

“The opportunity to engage in meaningful projects and collaborate with like-minded colleagues keeps me energized and committed to MRDC’s goals,” he said.

“My vision is for MRDC to remain at the forefront, continuously adapting to the evolving needs of landowners and communities. I hope we prioritize sustainability and inclusivity, ensuring future initiatives resonate with and benefit a broader community.”
Looking ahead, Norman is excited about the potential for new partnerships and groundbreaking projects that will further strengthen MRDC’s legacy.

Annie Waigeno
Annie Waigeno
Executive Assistant to Deputy Chief Execuitve Officer/Chief Investment Officer
In April 2025, Annie Waigeno stepped into the role of Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer at Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).
Her responsibilities include managing and optimizing busy schedules, coordinating travel arrangements, organizing appointments, and serving as the key communication link between departments and external stakeholders.
Annie is at the forefront of all administrative tasks for the DCEO and the Investments Division.
Annie’s journey with MRDC began in April 2014, when she joined as a Records Clerk.
Originally from Central Province, her initial duties involved registering physical files, which at the time were simply packed in archive boxes with labels. She played a pivotal role in transitioning MRDC from manual filing to an electronic system, helping to create a structured and efficient filing process.
Her career progressed steadily. In 2018, Annie was promoted to Records and AdminSupport Officer, where she supervised the records team, managed MRDC’s fleet, assisted with administrative tasks, and even acted as PA to the Chief Operating Officer when needed.
This year, her dedication and expertise earned her the position of Executive Assistant to the Deputy CEO and Chief Investment Officer.
Reflecting on her achievements, Annie proudly highlights:
- Creating a proper electronic filing structure from a manual system.
- Ensuring financial audits were up to date by retrieving source documents promptly.
- Managing the administration team to support daily operations, including MRDC’s fleet.
- Facilitating staff registration for NID birth certificates and cards.
Annie attributes her 11-year commitment to MRDC to its unique culture and positive working environment.
“The collaborative spirit, dedication to excellence, and shared commitment to our goals have created an atmosphere where individuals feel valued and empowered to contribute their best,” she says.
She also thrives under pressure, noting that handling ad hoc requests has strengthened her network with service providers and stakeholders, enabling her to meet tight deadlines.
As MRDC celebrates 50 years of operation, Annie reflects on this milestone:
“Reaching 50 years is a remarkable achievement that speaks to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved with MRDC. Looking ahead, my hope is for MRDC to continue expanding its reach and impact, building on the strong foundation it has established over the decades.”
Admin/Logistics Officer-Leader
Rayleen Taleh
Rayleen Taleh
Admin/Logistics Officer-Leader
Rayleen’s journey began with direct engagement with landowners—responding to queries, guiding them through processes, and ensuring they were connected to the right officers. This hands-on experience gave her a strong foundation in understanding the needs and expectations of MRDC’s beneficiaries.
“My role involved engaging directly with landowners from project areas, attending to their queries, and referring them to the appropriate officers,” she said. “It required flexibility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to go the extra mile.”
Over the past seven years, her responsibilities have expanded significantly. In her current role, Rayleen supports logistics operations within the Legal Division, helping coordinate travel, documentation, and operational support for legal and landowner-related matters. Her work ensures that MRDC’s legal and governance processes run smoothly—especially when it comes to landowner representation and compliance.
One of her proudest moments was representing MRDC at the Sydney Mining Resource Conference in December 2024, where she supported the delegation and gained exposure to the broader resource development landscape.
“It was both a challenging and rewarding experience that reflected my commitment to MRDC—even during weekends or after hours when duty calls.”
Rayleen is driven by a strong sense of purpose. She sees her work as a direct contribution to the lives of landowners in both the petroleum and mining sectors.
“I work for the landowners. The leadership and team spirit at MRDC constantly inspire me and provide opportunities to gain professional skills, build relationships, and learn every day.”
She has witnessed MRDC’s transformation under the leadership of Managing Director Mr. Augustine Mano—from a modest operation to a billion-kina investment company. She credits the adoption of digital tools like Microsoft 365 and Pronto for improving internal processes and strengthening governance.
“These innovations have made our work more efficient and transparent. They’ve helped us serve landowners better.”
Rayleen also values the company’s culture, describing MRDC as a place where diversity is embraced and people support one another through both celebration and hardship.
“MRDC is unique because of its core mandate to protect landowner equity. The cultural diversity within the company creates a family-like bond—we share joy and mourn together when a colleague or family member passes away.”
Looking ahead, Rayleen hopes MRDC continues to grow its investment portfolio and deepen its impact through education and community development.
“My vision is for the company to expand its investments, embrace innovation even more, and remain true to its mission while adapting to global changes. I also hope MRDC continues to be a place where people can grow, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future.”
